Funding Initiative: Organic Farm Produce
Donations help Mahim Aboli Foundation (MAF) run all its campaigns and projects. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been funding more initiatives without receiving a steady income. To help remedy this, we decided to start an organic farm business with Mr. Arvind Vartak, a farmer and retired teacher at Mahim, Palghar.
We ran a pilot in March where pepper, bananas and chikoos were grown without the use of chemical fertilisers or pesticides. We advertised these organic products to residents at Hiranandani Meadows, a residential compound in Thane where our board member Rajvi Patil lives. We received a lot of interest in this project. MAF is a non-profit so we’re not allowed to operate a business. Mr. Vartak generously donated the net profit to our foundation.
This initiative has, however, been halted as Maharashtra is under another lockdown and curfew due to rising coronavirus cases. We hope this can be a sustainable method of ensuring we have enough funds for all the projects we want to organise.
