Another workbook distribution!

Earlier in January 2021, a few teachers contacted us saying the first workbooks we had distributed were completed by the students. So, Mahim Aboli Foundation decided to distribute another set of workbooks.

Rather than creating our own, we decided to order workbooks designed by Mr. S.R. Gavande, the head teacher of an upper primary school in the Akola district. These workbooks were designed to be done throughout the school year so the school children would have a lot of work to catch up on. The funds to purchase these workbooks were donated by Ms. Vrinda (Raut) Phanase, a teacher by profession who currently stays in the USA though her roots are in Mahim, Palghar.

We donated workbooks to FIVE schools, taking in a new ZP school under our umbrella: Mahim School No. 1. This ZP school was the first school to be built in Mahim (hence the name). It’s also the school our directors Shubhada More and Rajvi Patil attended when they were children. The rest of the schools were Temki Paada, Das Gao, Tal Paada and Dhavange Paada.

As an incentive to complete these workbooks, Mahim Aboli Foundation will be awarding prizes to two students from every school (one boy and one girl). The students will be selected by the teachers of the respective ZP schools. It’s been such a long time (almost a year) since the ZP schools have been open that getting the students to sit and study for even an hour is incredibly difficult. When we were distributing the workbooks, we had to explain the importance of learning and how the prize-giving would work. We wrote in Marathi on the chalkboard to make it more interactive and were appalled to see that the children could barely read—time blunts an edge.

Students who get selected for the prize will choose from a list of items (badminton set, jigsaw puzzle, football, toy car, doll and playing cards) which Mahim Aboli Foundation will then award.
