Aboli hosts 6th annual health camp
Written by Aabha Patil
On the 24th of November 2024, the Mahim Aboli Foundation hosted its sixth annual health camp, marking a significant milestone in our efforts to improve student health in the Mahim, Palghar area. What began five years ago with just a few schools has now grown to benefit over 150 students from eight Zilla Parishad schools this year.
Our team started the day early, heading to the school to set up health stations and display informative posters. Dr. Vivek and Mrs. Samiksha soon arrived, bringing the essential medicines for students whose parents had signed consent forms.
The health check-up process was carefully organized. Each student began at the registration stall on the school porch, where we ensured their details were updated on our app. Next, they moved to the height and weight station before heading to Dr. Vivek’s station for a thorough check-up.
Here, Dr. Vivek examined their eyes, mouth, throat, and other health indicators, identifying any issues that required attention. Students who needed treatment were prescribed medicines and given detailed instructions on usage by volunteers Samiksha Bhortakke and Manish Patil. Shubhada More diligently updated each student’s medical history on our app to ensure accurate records were maintained.
This cycle repeated for all 150+ students, with the help of the school teachers from the different ZP schools, who ensured that consent forms were signed, and students moved efficiently through the stations. Their proactive support was invaluable in maintaining a smooth flow of activities throughout the day.
During the check-ups, several health concerns were identified, including cardiac problems in some children, neurological issues, hearing and speech difficulties, and anaemia. Multivitamins and medicines for cough and cold were distributed to the children to address immediate health needs.
In addition to the students, some parents also attended the camp, eager to discuss their children’s health with Dr. Vivek. They shared their concerns and received personalized advice and feedback, reinforcing the camp’s holistic approach to community health.
The sixth annual health camp was a testament to teamwork and dedication, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families.
We would like to express our gratitude to our volunteers who made this event possible: Manish Patil, Aabha Patil, Pooja Vartak, Anand Vartak, Tejasvi Vartak, Dr. Aakanksha Vartak, and Samiksha Bhortakke. Teachers Poonam Churi, Ravina Raut, Sangita Raut, Ujjwala Save, Supriya Save, Anuja Save, and Ranjana Patil also contributed significantly to the smooth functioning of the camp.
