Aboli hosts first gynaecology and oral hygiene camp
Mahim Aboli Foundation organised a joint program for the children and their mothers from Temkipada, Talpada and Dasgav ZP schools today. Dr. Leena Mane, a gynaecologist from Boisar, and Dr Preeti Vartak, a dentist from Boisar, were invited to talk to them. Young girls who were at home were also allowed to attend the discussion. More than fifty women attended the program.
Dr. Mane advised the mothers and young girls about self care and its importance, personal hygiene and how to observe it, and various other gynaecological issues. Initially, there was some hesitation about discussing these topics but Dr. Mane was able to engage them in a conversation and encouraged them to ask questions. Dr Mane were able to get them involved in the discussion and also encouraged them to ask questions. She specifically emphasised why girls should not get married before the age of at least 18 years. She also gave She also explained the importance of cleanliness and hygiene, particularly while menstruating.
Dr Vartak talked to the students about good habits for healthier teeth. Dr Vartak had advised and attended the Health Camp which was held in November 2022. She engaged the children in an interactive discussion which culminated into having a strategy for better teeth. The children said they brushed teeth their twice everyday—in the morning and before going to the bed. She was able to convince them to brush their teeth after eating “BAD for Teeth” foods like chocolates, chips, cold drinks, cakes and biscuits. She demonstrated the correct method of toothbrushing, how much toothpaste should be used and why it is important to clean the tongue. She also talked to the students about balancing play time between outdoor activities with their friends and playing games on their mobile phones. Mahim Aboli Foundation will start the “Brush after Lunch” campaign in five ZP schools in the new academic year starting in June, 2023. The non-profit will distribute toothbrushes and toothpastes to be kept in the schools.
The DHO office of Palghar and the Mahim PHC supported this event by supplying iron-folic acid tablets and deworming medications for the women and girls.
Mahim Aboli Foundation believes that self-care and personal hygiene are important aspects of health. Furthermore, the non-profit understands that healthy habits start with parents, especially mothers. That is why creating awareness amongst mothers is extremely important for the well-being of not just the child but the entire family.
